Quadrem chooses European Managed Hosting partner.

Dedigate announces a new hosting agreement with Quadrem, the global e-marketplace connection for the mining, minerals and metal industry. Under the agreement, Quadrem is moving its operations to an infrastructure hosted by Dedigate. This agreement represents one of the largest orders to date for the European leader in managed dedicated hosting services. The Internet infrastructure designed for Quadrem involves over 70 servers in a complex architecture with clustered databases and redundant data centers.

Quadrem is a fully functional global e-marketplace. Quadrem’s network has grown 136% last quarter to 436 purchasing locations and more than 14,500 suppliers, representing over 30,000 users. The Quadrem e-marketplace is composed of an electronic transaction platform, as well as a suite of strategic sourcing tools, including eRFx capability and auctions offerings. With operations on five continents, Quadrem is the only truly global e-marketplace currently in operation, in any industry.

"Quadrem provides e-business tools and professional services that bring greater efficiencies to the supply chain," explains Mike Efting, CEO of Quadrem. "Our customers appreciate how advanced technologies can make a huge difference to how they do business. It is our commitment to them that these tools and services are available when and how they need them." explains Mike Efting, CEO of Quadrem. "Our customers appreciate how advanced technologies can make a huge difference to how they do business. It is our commitment to them that these tools and services are available when and how they need them."

Maximum availability

Quadrem’s e-marketplace is a transaction-intensive environment that requires a mission-critical, non-stop Internet infrastructure that can stand the test of serving hundreds of buyers and sellers simultaneously, at any time of the day. Previously operated in the US, Quadrem is now shifting its eMarketplace ‘engine’ to Dedigate.

Dedigate has architected an infrastructure that is powered by over 70 Dell and Sun servers. Dedigate’s own technologies such as GlobalTDS will optimize the efficiency of access to the marketplace through intelligent loadbalancing and traffic distribution. Its solid expertise in systems integration and support will ensure the maximum availability of applications and data that rely on clustered databases and two high-performance SAN storage repositories.

Highest level of redundancy

"In addition, everything in Quadrem’s environment will be totally redundant," says Joost Metten, Dedigate’s CTO. "The marketplace is critical to Quadrem’s trading partners. No single point of failure can be tolerated to bring down the operations." SmartDATACENTER, a new service recently introduced by Dedigate, enables the highest level of redundancy. The service offers a clustered computing environment spread over two data centers – placing one side of the cluster in a highly secure data center at one location – and the other side at a separate location. Dedigate has engineered a technology-driven platform that offers a highly affordable, technically superior architecture that operates across its seven data center facilities in Europe.

A totally integrated solution

One of Dedigate’s unique strengths resides in its own workflow technologies for systems management. Instead of using a patchwork of 3rd party solutions for corporate environments, Dedigate has engineered a totally integrated solution that is fully geared towards Internet data center operations. This allows Dedigate to accelerate the roll-out of infrastructure and to provide fast, unlimited and reliable scalability when customers need grow.

Scalability will be key to Quadrem’s success. "Over the past year, we have experienced an average monthly increase of 30 percent in transactions,” explains Ian Hollingworth, Chief Technology Officer of Quadrem. “This growth translates in a 20-fold growth in transaction value. This underscores the importance of being able to grow that infrastructure quickly when usage from buyers and sellers in our marketplace is on the increase.”

“We are very proud to be selected by Quadrem to become their strategic hosting partner, against strong competition from international hosting heavyweights,” says Herman Oggel, CEO of Dedigate. “It proves we offer a powerful mix of technological innovations, sound methodology, and total dedication to our customers’ business.”
